BOISE – New season. New team. New faces. The Eagle Mustangs (5A ,1-0) took on the Bishop Kelly Knights (4A, 0-1) Wednesday night in a non-conference season-opener at Bishop Kelly High School.
The Knights came out firing early and the shots were falling. A combination of 4 3-pointers and an aggressive zone defense turned into a 22-10 Bishop Kelly 1st quarter lead. The success continued into the second quarter with a couple more 3-pointers as the Knights took a 34-24 lead at half. Eagle was down by as many as 21 points in the second quarter.
In the second half is where Eagle would look to its big men to turn the tide. Returning senior Landon White (6’6″) and senior transfer Sawyr Hansen (6’6″) dominated the paint as White finished with 14 points and a team-high 16 rebounds. Hansen led all Eagle scorers with 20 points and collected 13 boards. Eagle held Bishop Kelly to only 4 points in the 3rd quarter and the comeback was on with the game tied 38-38 at the end of the 3rd.
It was all Eagle in the 4th quarter as they outscored the Knights 24-12, securing a 62-52 victory. Eagle opens conference play on Tuesday, December 6th at home. Game starts at 7:30pm.

Quick hits: Bishops Kelly’s largest run was 17-2 and Eagle’s was 20-1. Eagle out-rebounded by a margin of 40-24. Eagle made just 1 of 8 3-pointers.
